Mindful Moments: Nurturing little Zen masters with a sprinkle of EYFS magic!
We all know that in the hustle and bustle of childcare, finding those moments of peace and mindfulness can feel like chasing unicorns. But fear not, because we have a secret weapon to unlock the inner calm within our little mindees – Mindful Moments! In this blog, we’re diving into the magical world of mindfulness, blending it with the power of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Get ready to embark on a journey of giggles, calmness, and serenity as we explore how to create Mindful Moments that will leave kids feeling like true Zen masters!

1. Mindful yoga adventures

Mindful yoga adventures are the perfect way to engage little minds and bodies. Encourage them to breathe deeply, embrace their inner sloths, and unleash their superpowers of flexibility and focus. A child’s Downward Dog can be the cutest thing ever! There are plenty of fun and engaging resources to guide you and your little ones – we love these Cosmic Kids Yoga videos.

2. Mindful story time

Take story time to a whole new level of relaxation and mindfulness. Gather the mindees around as you read a soothing tale, sprinkled with moments of silence and reflection. Let the story transport them to a world of tranquillity and imagination. Elmer’s Walk is a beautiful tale about slowing things down as the elephant observes colour and stops to smell the flowers. Another fave is Ruby’s Worry – the captivating story and visuals are a great way to start conversations around identifying worry and anxiety.

3. Zen-tastic sensory experiences

Sensory play meets mindfulness in the most delightful way. Set up a ‘Zen garden’ with soft sand or create a sensory bin filled with calming materials like lavender-scented rice. Let your children engage their senses, explore textures, and find some inner peace through tactile experiences. Just prepare yourself for the possibility of sand flying across the room!

4. Mindful art expression

Encourage kids to express their mood and thoughts creatively. Provide them with art supplies and encourage them to paint or draw with focused attention, letting their thoughts flow freely onto the canvas. Remind them that there are no right or wrong creations; it’s all about the process and being in the moment.

Heads-up: this could get messy.

Together, let’s nurture little serenity seekers who will hopefully carry these mindful skills throughout their lives. Remember, even in the midst of chaos, a mindful breath can bring peace and joy. So, take a deep breath, embrace the moment, and let the mindee’s Mindful Moments begin!
